In BBS he deals with different areas, in particular with Operations, design and management of industrial systems and solutions related to the Industry 4.0 plan.
PhD in “Operations in productive systems”, 1998-2000, University of Parma – Department of Industrial Engineering.
Coordinator of the Course of Study in Management Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Bologna in the period 2013-2019.
Member of the Teaching Board of the PhD School in Advanced Automotive Engineering (University of Bologna, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Parma).
Member of the Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research of the University of Bologna – Advanced Mechanics and Materials. High Tech Technopolis Network of Emilia Romagna Region.
He has been and is involved in several research and technological innovation projects in collaboration with private and public Italian and international companies.
Before the university experience he covered the role of Operations manager in a multinational company (tasks: logistics management and maintenance of production facilities).

COURSES

This LAB will bring you in a learning factory environment. Thanks to the collaboration with the Big Data Innovation & Research Excellence (BI-REX) Consortium, the LAB explores an advanced production system made of modern additive manufacturing machines, robotic handling devices and a fully automated handling and storage systems. Design and management strategies are experienced focusing on their impact on the long-term performances and daily operations from a what-if multi-scenario and learning by doing perspective.

The cross-sectionality of the logistics function and the value chain. Design and planning of the production system layouts. Management and forecasting of market demand. General criteria of programming and audit of production. Procurement and management of inventory and consumable materials. Evolution of just in time systems: from lean production to lean thinking. Automation of the information flow: from barcode to RFID technologies. Management of physical distribution.

MBA Weekend

Operations module will give to students the necessary skillset to understand which will be the principal evolutions of the field in the next years, so to be able to anticipate, face and benefit from those transformational changes. The course will also include a strong contamination from real world, in terms of advanced technologies (provided both from corporates and startups), new business models and real cases of innovation in the field.

Sustainability and Business Innovation

The course presents the characteristics of operations system and the main interactions between choices of planning and production structure. The most recent methodologies in terms of cost reduction, quality, and reliability are analyzed, together with the role of providers in the innovation process. Focus is placed on lean manufacturing, demonstrating how the approach, which began in production, is now relevant to the entire company, giving rise to the lean organization.

Technology and Innovation

The module after developing the theme of the current operating environment for manufacturing companies, proposes some of the main best practices in the design and management of manufacturing systems (both physical and information flow). It will also address the topic of continous improvement by presenting the main methodologies for managing improvement through lean manufacturing logics. The impact of digitization on the way manufacturing is organized will be addressed crosswise throughout the module. Finally, quality management from the perspective of integration into a modern manufacturing paradigm will be analyzed.

Supply Chain and Operations

The Capstone Project (CP) is the final and unique project that Global MBA students will complete in each track as the culminating experience of their academic year. The CP distinctive feature is that students will work as a consulting team on real-world projects that companies are working on and/or want to implement. The “client” companies participate in the CP not only to contribute to the GMBA educational journey and let students improve their professional competence in a real “industrial project”, but also because they see real value in the work of our students, who will serve as real consultant and will apply the knowledge, theories and tools acquired during the year.

The objective of this course is that students, through their own work on a company-based authentic project, will synthesize and develop their knowledge as well as their skills in their chosen sector. The students will work with a real problem within an established organization or start-up. By working on problem identification, collecting data, analyzing, drawing conclusions, and presenting a thoroughly elaborated plan for the implementation of the project, students will draw upon their knowledge at the same time as they train their skills in central areas, such as leadership and project management.

Managerial and organizational decisions made about the relationships with external companies with which we relate to, are the focal point of the course. In analyzing the vertical relationships between firms, the course seeks to develop: sensitivity to the Strategic Importance of the reports, the technical and managerial knowledge needed to deal with the decisions in the matter and organizational skills needed to manage them.
